Sam Caligiuri represented the 16th Senate District

Former State Senator Sam Caligiuri, who represented the town of Wolcott for four years will be honored by Wolcott’s Republican Town Committee at a dinner at Krystal Gardens. Caligiuri was famously quoted by the Hartford Courant as “The Last Sane Man in Hartford” after he was the sole legislator to vote against then-Governor Rell’s budget in 2009. Caligiuri foresaw a scenario where the state would not be able to afford the proposed spending at that time. His predictions turned out to be true with the current Governor desparate to solve a $3 billion budget gap.

Prior to serving as State Senator, Caligiuri was the interum Mayor of Waterbury after a previous mayor was arrested. He earned high respect for his handling of the city’s budget and cleaning up corrupt practices in towing and other contracts. A quiet family man, Sam is well respected statewide for his service and thoughful insight in various issues.

Dinner and raffle will be held for the event which begins with a social hour at 6 pm. Krystal Gardens is on Spindle Hill Road. Top prizes for the raffle include an iPad, a Kindle, a $300 gift certificate to Home Depot and $100 gift certificates to Pat’s and Walsh’s IGA.

Tickets may be purchased from any Wolcott Town Committee member or by contacting Rachel Wisler at 879-4822. Town Council members in particular have been discussing whether to purchae iPads for their meetings. Perhaps they may be uniquely interested in the raffle.
