Waterbury Fireworks Postponed

by LonSeidman

Waterbury Police have informed the Whisper that the concert and fireworks scheduled for tonight at Municipal Stadium are postponed to tomorrow night.

The band Swing Shift will begin their performance at 7 pm with gates opening at 6 pm. Naugatuck and Quassapaug in Middlebury are also holding their fireworks tomorrow night as well.

Rain and sprinkles throughout today – with the probable chance that they will continue into tonight led to the decision. Showers are moving primarily from north to south in a circular pattern, so the heaviest of rain which as of 4:30 is just over the Hudson Valley may not arrive in the Greater Wolcott area until late this evening.

4th Experience: Nina & Pinta in Bridgeport

by LonSeidman

The most historically accurate Niña ever built, accompanied by her larger and younger sister ship, the Pinta, tied up Thursday at Captain’s Cove in Bridgeport. The two tall ships are open for tours through Monday. This is the Niña’s fourth visit to Captain’s Cove – the last time was in 2007.

“This is the first time the Pinta has been in your fair city,” said Capt. Morgan Sanger, who commands the Niña, which like the Pinta, was built in Valenca, Brazil. The Niña was completed in 1991, the Pinta in 2005.

Have I become less friendly since I’ve lived in New England?

My road trip last week was to Texas, a place flourishing with smiles and Southern hospitality. People made friendly conversation with me at the cash register and no one laid on their horn because I wasn’t driving fast enough. Before I knew it…
