Markley Holds Town Hall Tonight

Sen. Joe Markley

Sen. Joe Markley, who represents Wolcott, Southington, Waterbury and Cheshire, will hold a Town Hall Meeting tonight in Waterbury.

 

The meeting will include an informative legislative wrap-up of a ‘short session’ which just ended two weeks ago. Attendees are welcome to ask the Senator any questions or share ideas on their mind that affect the region. Joining Markley will be State Represenatives Selim Noujaim and Anthony D’Amelio.

 

The meeting will be at 6:30 TONIGHT at City Hall, 235 Grand Street. Go to the Veterans Memorial Hall on the 2nd  floor.

Battle Over Malloy’s Executive Orders Continues

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy signed the legislation allowing home and daycare workers to collectively bargain into law on May 14, but the court battle over his two executive orders that set the law in motion continues.

Three lawsuits have been filed and consolidated in Superior Court alleging the governor overstepped his authority in issuing orders that the plaintiffs say amounts to the forced unionization of the groups.

Malloy’s executive orders created a pathway for the workers to form a union and both groups of workers have since voted to do so.

Severe Weather Expected Today

Good Afternoon!

Today’s oppressive humidity is expected to be relieved later this evening, but not before strong and potentially violent thunderstorms move through the area. As of 1:50, Western Massachusetts, and all of Vermont and northern NY State was under a tornado watch area as storms make their way out of Canada and eastward from Central Pennsylvania. At 1:45, a tornado warning was already posted in an area of the Eastern Adirondack mountains.

Fox 61 Meteorologist Geoff Fox isn’t expecting that kind of threat to reach Connecticut, and the National Weather Service is only expecting strong thunderstorms for the Greater Wolcott area today. Yet, these storms can still border on the severe level with heavy downpours, hail and winds.

Board of Education Presents Budget Request

The BOE is presenting its budget request to the Town Council right NOW at Town Hall. You may also view it on Channel 96.

This budget request takes up about 50% of the town’s total budget allocation for 2012-2013.
