Emergency Alert Notification Changes; Cell Users Need to Re-Up

by Christopher O'Brien

The Town of Wolcott and The Wolcott Police Department have implemented the Connecticut Alert Emergency Notification System (CT Alert ENS), an emergency incident notification system. This system has taken the place of the CodeRED system that had previously been in place. This notification system will provide a town wide reverse 911 and “Opt-In” program for our citizens. This system will enhance the Police Department’s ability to protect lives and property by providing critical information to citizens during potential life threatening emergencies such as severe weather, fires, floods, unexpected road closures or evacuation of buildings or neighborhoods.

Residents with cell phones or who want to be notified by text message can sign up HERE.

Please visit the Town of Wolcott website at www.wolcottct.org or CT Alert Citizen Sign-up website at www.ctalert.gov to register your wireless telephone numbers, text message numbers, TDD/TTY and email addresses in order to receive alerts on those devices. There is no cost to register. The website will also allow the public to designate other locations that they may wish to receive alerts about, such as; where your children go to school, where you work, or where family members live.

This system will automatically call all landline phones in the Town of Wolcott. If you wish to be notified on cell phones, emails, or texts, you will have to register, even if you had previously registered with Code Red.

This system will be tested during the Statewide drill that will be simulating a Category 3 hurricane on Monday and Tuesday.
