Gov. Secures Funding; “Sandy Worse Than Irene”

Governor Malloy meeting in the State's EOCEarly estimates show that the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy is “substantially larger” than the damage caused by Tropical Storm Irene, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said.

At his last briefing of the day, Malloy said the storm partially or fully destroyed buildings in Milford, damaged homes in East Haven, East Lyme, Old Saybrook, and caused flood damage to buildings in Bridgeport, contributed to a fire which spread to three homes in Greenwich, and that’s just the beginning. .

“The damage is far more extensive up and down the coast… Seawalls were actually destroyed as well,” Malloy said.

After two phone conversations with President Barack Obama Tuesday Malloy said he was able to get a Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster declaration for Fairfield, Middlesex, New Haven, and New London counties, including the two tribal nations. Continue reading…

Shelter, Showers Open, Cleanup Begins

For Wolcott residents still without power due to Hurricane Sandy, the town has opened the town’s Senior Center on Nichols Rd. as a warming and charging station for electrical devices. Any resident is welcome to stop by to recharge until 9 pm.

Tyrrell School has also been opened for showers. People using the showers will be checked in and should enter the school from the South Entrance.
