Town Treasurer- Three Quality Candidates in Open Race

clipArt_moneySymbolRoger Levesque will be retiring as Town Treasurer this year. As we result, three respected men have thrown their hats into the ring for the position. In our view, each one is qualified in their own right. For a change, its nice to have such a tough decision between candidates that are well known and have good qualifications. It will be up to voters to decide who has the best ideas or qualifications for the office.

Profiles appear as they are listed on the ballot: Anthony Marino (R), David Gentile (D) and George Phelan (PC).

Network Halts Enrollment in Connecticut

Connecticut’s health insurance exchange, which has largely avoided the technical problems that have plagued the federal Healthcare.gov website, was caught in the middle Sunday when it was no longer able to verify information through the federal data hub.

Terremark, a Verizon company that operates a data center for the federal government, was trying to replace a networking component Sunday when it brought the entire network down.

Candidates for Board of Assessment Appeals

This three person board reviews assessment rates given to residents. For example, if a resident believes their assessment is too high (resulting in a higher tax fee), they can appeal it to this board. Voters can choose any two of the four candidates.

Olmstead Hosts Forum Friday

Steve Olmstead (PC)

Steve Olmstead, who is one of two challengers for Mayor is inviting the public to ask him questions during a Town Hall style forum at Wolcott Town Hall Friday. The event will occur at 7 pm.

Olmstead says that he also invited mayoral candidates Tom Dunn and Mike Gugliotti to join him as well. Dunn declined citing previous commitments. It is unknown wehtehr Gugliotti will join him as of Tuesday evening.

Olmstead was the Democratic candidate for mayor in 2011, but this year is running as a Petitioning Candidate.

Meet The Candidates Wednesday

vote clipartThe Junior Women’s Club is sponsoring their annual Meet The Candidates night tonight at Tyrell School. The event will start at 7 pm. All residents are invited to attend the free event. Refreshments will be offered.

While there are several heavily competitive races, this event is not a debate. Every candidate will have a few minutes to address the crowd on why they are runnign for the office they’re seeking.
