Boating Course Offered

A boating safety class will be offered March 8th at the Youth Center by the US Coast Guard Auxillary. Anyone is welcome to attend the course. The course is $50. Pre-registration is available HERE, or participants can also bring this form to the class and pay on site.

A certificate of completion is required to operate an engine powered boat on inland lakes or the ocean in Connecticut. This includes motorboats, jet skis, and other craft up to 62 feet in length.

As snow and ice piles up, residents are reminded to clear fire hydrants near their homes. You never know if your house might be the one saved because of it.

Several areas of Wolcott now have public water and hydrants as well. It doesn’t take long for a fire to get out of control – perhaps as little as five or ten minutes. With the ice storm we are currently experiencing, seconds and minutes could make all the difference as fire trucks will have to deal with very slippery and icey roads in the next twelve hours.

A Beach Road family’s home was saved by firefighters Thursday evening in part because they happened to be leaving another call less than half a mile away. There was also a fire hydrant at the corner of the property.

All hydrants are marked with red-and-white poles and flags. Residents are requested to adopt a hydrant and clear at least five feet around the hydrant. This way firefighters can quickly access the hydrant to reach a structure to extinguish a blaze.

Beach Road Fire Stopped Fast During Icey Storm

Despite piles of snow, an icey rain and 40 mile an hour winds, Wolcott firefighters were able to prevent a basement fire from claiming a Beach Road home Thursday evening.
