The Worhunsky Corporation has been purchased by All-Star Transportation, according to a news release last week.  All-Star is owned and operated by the Dufour family, which has been in the school transportation business in Connecticut for nearly 50-years. The company provides bus service to Waterbury and Prospect with a headquarters and maintenance facility on Huntingdon Avenue.

“The Worhunsky family has been a well-regarded provider of school transportation services in Connecticut since 1951 and we are delighted to be taking over this well-run family business,” said, John Dufour, President of All-Star Transportation. “As another family-owned company already providing service to schools in the region, this was a perfect fit for us and the communities we serve.”

The purchase will affect approximately 40 employees and managers in Wolcott. “All of these employees will have jobs with the same managers and the business will run the same in January as it does now,” says Leslie Sheldon, the Operations Manager for All-Star Transportation. She added that the Worhunsky name will remain on the busses.

Wolcott’s Board of Education approved a resolution at its December 8th meeting approving and acknowledging the purchase. All-Star is assuming Worhunsky’s five- year contract with the town which will expire in 2018. Worhunsky is a Plymouth based family run company that provides school bus service for Wolcot and three other Northwest Connecticut towns. The current existing agreement was the result of efforts by Superintendent Joseph Macary and the Board of Education to consolidate transportation costs with Plymouth and saving money to both towns.

In total, Worhunsky currently has approximately 115 employees with 120 vehicles across four towns. The other two towns are Thomaston and Winchester.

All-Star Transportation operates in about 30 towns with over 700 vehicles.

“We look forward to establishing relationships with the 4 new towns that we will be providing service to and welcoming all of the Worhunsky employees to our team of over 800 professional drivers, monitors, mechanics and management,” Dufour said.
