Esty Finds Support in Wolcott; Greenberg Wins Town but Loses District

Wolcott residents voted in a crucial primary Tuesday that offered vastly different visions for US Congress. The conservative Republican town favored onservative Mark Greenberg on the Republican side and while newcomer Dan Roberti did well in the 2nd district at Wolcott High School, most Democratic voters favored Elizabeth Esty in the battle for the open 5th District. Wolcott was just one of 41 towns in the vast district that stretches from Meriden and Simsbury to Danbury and Salisbury.

In the US Senate race, Republican McMahon demolished Chris Shays with 91%.

Donovan Steps Down from Redistricting Commission

Facing criticism from his Congressional opponents, Speaker of the House Chris Donovan stepped down Wednesday from the Reapportionment Commission after helping to approve the new state House and Senate District maps.

Unable to reach consensus on how to draw the lines for the five Congressional Districts, the commission will ask the Supreme Court for an extension.

Did You Know?Wolcott is currently in the 5th Congressional District. It is in th 16th Senatorial District and the 80th State House District. Every 10 years the state must re-adjust district boundaries to account for population equality

Donovan said his Congressional campaign in the 5th District wasn’t getting in the way of the process for him, but by asking Gov. Dannel P. Malloy to appoint Majority Leader Brendan Sharkey to the commission he “avoids any unnecessary questions.”
