Boutot Fundraiser Planned Sunday

A fundraiser will be held on Sunday, November 24th from 1-5 pm at The River Restaurant and Pub for Kyle Boutot who suffered a debilitating spinal injury over a year ago. Proceeds will assist his family with medical expenses and to install a ramp so he can return home.  A $20 donation ($15 for children under 10) is requested.

Post Traumatic Stress Forum for Veterans

A forum for veterans as well as family members will be heldin Bristol on Tuesday, November 19th. As many as 76% of returning veterans may exhibit symptoms of stress related to military service. The discussion will help veterans and family recognize and be aware  of health issues that can occur with  reintergration, with a focus on the warning signs of PTSD and depression.  The Panel will include recently returned Veterans, Family  Members and Counselors. Intended for  Veterans, Service Members, and their  Families.

The session is free, although attendees should RSVP by November 14th. They can contact the Army Strong Community Center at 860-584-6258 or 860-584-6257. The session will be from 6:30-8:00 pm in meting room #2 at the Bristol Library at 5 High St.

Pawtoberfest 2013 to benefit Town Pound

A second annual PAWTOBERFEST to benefit the Wolcott Dog Pound’s medical fund will be held all day and evening Saturday. Last year organizers raised almost $9,000 which benefits the no-kill shelter. Several other animal rescue groups will also benefit.

The event to be held at Johnny B’s Bar and Grill on Meriden Rd. will include live music, beer, prizes for only $10 will start at 1 pm and continue until the bar closes after midnight.

140 Unit Senior Living Facility; Micro-Brewery Proposed

A number of businesses are looking to move into Wolcott, signalling both a potentially improving local economy, as well as demand for services that are being met by local entrepeneurs. The Town’s Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a Public Hearing tonight at 6:30 on a proposed Assisted Living Facility adjacent to Wolcott View Manor on Beach Road.  A meeting will follow to consider six additional business related applications.

Some of those proposals include a fitness center in the former Wolcott Tire building, a microbrewery which will be housed near the Waterbury town line, a bakery, and a new church.

But the largest project may generate the most vigorous debate.
